We don’t support online piracy, but we do support the freedom of expression, innovation and opportunity that the internet provides. The proposed Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA) proposed by Congress will change the way we experience the internet and will put an end to many sites we use everyday. This will not only relinquish us of some freedom, but it will also put a big hole in the job market that the internet brings us.
On Jan 24th, Congress will vote to pass internet censorship in the Senate, even though the vast majority of Americans are opposed. We need to kill the bill – PIPA in the Senate and SOPA in the House – to protect our rights to free speech, privacy, and prosperity. We need internet companies to follow Reddit’s lead and stand up for the web, as we internet users are doing every day.
On January 18, 2012, the internet is going on strike to stop the web censorship bills in congress! This day will be, in a single word, amazing. Thousands of websites will all be striking in a variety of ways. But they all will be making a difference.
E10Host has just signed the petition to join in on this revolutionary moment in internet history. We will black out our website for 12 hours on the 18th of January to show our petition for these two proposed bills. If you own a website, you too can join this strike by going to the official SOPA Strike website and signing the petition. If you do not have a website but do have a Twitter account, you can support the strike by Tweeting about the #SOPASTRIKE and ask your followers to get ready.
